"Compact Swing" Drill

October 2000

By: Mike Golden (Augusta, Maine)

Equipment Needed: JUGS Poly Balls, Bat

Step 1

Stand 15 to 20 feet from the batter and throw fastballs simulating over or underhand (baseball/softball). The hitters develop a quick compact swing, picking the ball up right out of the hand. Speed can vary depending on skill. Younger players will not bail out from fear of being hit with the JUGS Poly Ball.

"I use this drill with girls ages 9 and up and they all have developed a nice swing and are making contact." Due to limited space I also use this drill for pre-game batting practice." Coach Mike Golden, Capital Area Youth Softball Association
