All players line up at home plate.
The first two runners go when the coach motions, simulating a pitch — runner #1 running through first base with proper technique, and runner #2 rounding first base and going to second base. Two more runners get ready at home and repeat what the first two runners did, while the first two runners proceed to run from first to third and second to home, all being triggered by the coach's simulated pitch.
We run this drill through twice, with the players switching starting positions at home so each will have to run through first base.
We have learned that this drill is good for conditioning and teaches proper base-running technique.
